Pi Network

Utilities Creation on the Platform Level

Pi Network

2025/04/16

Pi Network stands at the forefront of the cryptocurrency revolution—not just because of its novel approach to mobile mining or its massive community, but due to its strong focus on building real-world utility within its ecosystem.

From the unconventional yet powerful invention of mobile mining, Pi has attracted over 47 million engaged users globally. Accessibility addresses the question: "How can people worldwide, regardless of income or education, access and own cryptocurrency?" Utility answers: "How can cryptocurrency truly improve people’s lives beyond trading?"

Pi Network has already implemented various utility-driven apps:

Fireside Forum – a decentralized content platform powered by Pi

Staked DM – uses Pi for peer-to-peer messaging

Pi Wallet – enables direct payments for goods and services

KYC App – incentivizes identity verification using Pi

Plus many community-built apps showcased in past Hackathons

What Are Platform-Level Utilities?

Beyond apps, Pi Network is also pioneering utilities at the platform level, leveraging its collective resources:

The community’s size and engagement

Collective user attention

Verified digital identities

Distributed computing power from network nodes

These assets enable utilities like:

Advertisers paying in Pi for user attention

Businesses integrating real KYC’d identities

Backend support for Web3 apps through Pi’s node network

Such platform-level innovations create lasting utility and organic demand for Pi.

Early Examples

As outlined in Roadmap v2 (Dec 2023), the Core Team is building a platform-level feature that draws on these collective resources. Two early implementations are:

Pi Ad Network (launched March 8, 2024): Advertisers must use Pi to place ads across Pi Apps.

Pi Domains Auction (launched March 14, 2025): Users bid in Pi for unique .pi domains to enhance their identity within the ecosystem.

More details will be revealed soon. Until then, happy mining—and let’s collectively reach our Open Network, KYC, and utility goals!
